last night i went to the farewell reception for my former headmaster. he was headmaster the entire 13 years i attended and had been with the school for some 30 years total which is impressive as the school is only about 40 years old.
he was nice, a good headmaster, but it was interesting hearing about what he was like as the young, cute teacher, then the cool older teacher and finally the headmaster. its always interesting to hear about how people were when you didn't know them, and i guess a person never stops changing, morphing into new versions of themselves.
i also thought about my school. i would be lying to say that my 13 years didn't scar me in ways that will always affect who i am, but in the years since i've left i've made peace with some of those scars and now see them more like beautiful imperfections that for better or worse, make me who you see me as.
oh and i work in a sitcome, let me give you a cast rundown
1) we've got the cool, sauve, harvard educated african american head lawyer/supervisor
2)there's the dorky, lanky, glasses wearing, but incredibly earnest and funny white second lawyer/supervisor guy
3) the tall, big female african american ex-offendor wise of the world, hilarious and politically incorrect legal assistant
4) the small, brunette, white female vegan/documentary filmaker who also works as a legal assistant and regales us with crazy peace corps stories
5) the heroine, a female white law clerk who had her first kid in high school, getting her law degree and a degree in life(tear)
6) the rest of the law clerks who round out the diversity quotient(including me, yea! go burgeoning south asian market)
7) the visiting lawyer from upstairs who cracks jokes and like to take photographs (aka the modern day neighbor character)
and my diet isn't working as well as i hoped, i think the never moving and always sitting around all day doesn't help. will try to walk for at least 15 minutes today. maybe. santa.

i like your cast of characters better than mine...why does doing good and helping others sound so amazingly positive in your world?? because the helping poor people shindig is crampin' my style...not as bad as civil rights though...
